UPDATE 7/21/10 @ 8:18 a.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Many areas across the tri-state have seen problems as a result of Monday night's storms and some are just starting to see their first rains.

Lawrence County, Ohio dispatchers are reporting that Upper Township and Elizabeth were the hardest hit in their county. They say several water rescues took place over night and there are several roads closed.

ODOT says the following routes are closed in Lawrence County due to the flooding.

They are: State Route 93, near C.R. 45 (Norris Branch Road) and approximately 3.5 miles north of Ironton;

State Route 93, between S.R. 522 at Lisman and S.R. 373; and

Highway water is also being reported at other locations on S.R. 775, south of Scottown, and on S.R. 243 near Getaway.

In Carter County, Kentucky, just a month after Olive Hill received major damage due to high water, they've been hit again. Dispatchers say there is 3 feet of water in the fire station.

The Sheriff's Office in Scioto County, Ohio says the hardest hit area in their county is Franklin Furnace. They say the worst problems are on Disterdick Lane. Several houses were surrounded by water and one was even destroyed.

In Greenup County, Kentucky, dispatchers say their worst problems are in Lloyd. They had one water rescue and several roads are still closed.

The KYTC reports that, several roads in northeast Kentucky are flooded or have been damaged by heavy rains overnight.

In addition, KY 57 at the Lewis-Fleming county line is closed until further notice.

In Carter County, KY 182 is washed out at the George Washington Bridge.

Metro 911 in Kanawha County says Rock Lake Underpass is still closed due to high water, but in the last hour, the problems have seemed to calm down.

ORIGINAL STORY 7/20/10 @ 10 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A strong thunderstorm has made some Huntington area roadways impassable Tuesday night, including the 10th Street viaduct, Cabell County 911 dispatchers say.

Meanwhile, high water rescues have been reported in some parts of our region.

There were some reports of motorists stranded in their vehicles, including a woman in the 2400 block of 5th Avenue. No injuries had been reported as of 10 p.m. Tuesday.

A Cabell County dispatcher said other viaducts were open as of 9:30 p.m., but could be closed in the near future.

As late as 11 p.m., motorists are asked to avoid all of the city's viaducts, as well as 3rd Avenue in the vicinity of St. Mary's Medical Center and the 2400 to 2500 blocks of 5th Avenue.

"Third Avenue around St. Mary's is nothing but water," a dispatcher said. "It's 3 feet deep in places."

High water problems also were reported in other parts of our region, including Lawrence County, Ohio, where a swift water rescue was reported about 10:15 p.m. on County Road 18.
