SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- New things could be coming to the Spring Hill area of South Charleston.

The city's Spring Hill Business District Committee met on Friday at the Little Creek Country Club to discuss revitalizing the area over the next decade.

The committee is specifically looking along MacCorkle Avenue just west of Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Some ideas that were brought to the table, include renovating storefronts, developing more parking in the area and attracting new businesses.

The committee is considering the possibility of flipping the storefronts to the back of the buildings so that the city can buy more properties for parking. The city would like to either develop larger lots or even build a parking garage.

The city could also eliminate parking along MacCorkle Avenue and add a turning lane to enter the new parking lots.

Committee members would also like to attract different businesses to the area.

Mayor Frank Mullens tells WSAZ.com health care is booming along MacCorkle Avenue so he would like to concentrate in bringing more health care facilities to the area, such as doctor and dental offices or pharmacies.

He would also like to mix in some other retail options for shoppers.

The committee will meet again next month.

City of So. Charleston needs to look at all the homes that have basements flooding in the Spring Hill area, and focus on helping these people with new, larger sewer. This is a far greater need then making everything look better and prettier. drains to save their homes.

I think Spring Hill looks fine. I guess the city government wants to waste money. Maybe they should incorporate Jefferson and clean it up instead.

We need to stop spending more than we are taking in. Think about the meeting we had last week about being able to pay our bills.
