UPDATE 7/26/10 @ 11:00 p.m.
NICHOLAS COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Richwood Police aren't releasing details surrounding the motive behind a murder Sunday, but families involved have their own theories.
Ronnie Ellison was found dead at his daughter, Jenny's home on Sunday afternoon.
Ellison's wife, Venus, says she went with her husband there to pick up the keys for his mother's car. Ellison two teanage sons were also along for the trip.
"He walked in the door and the boys ran back out and said Tim shot dad."
Venus says she ran in the house and found her husband shot to death. She claims that Timothy Jones told her to get out or he'd shoot her as well.
Jones is married to Ronnie's daughter and is charged with murder for his death.
"You'd never thought in a million years he'd shoot somebody, especially his wife's dad," said Venus.
Celia Ellison was in the hospital when she heard the news that her son had been shot. When she heard who allegedly did it, she didn't believe it.
"I would have never thought that out of Tim. Tim was the nicest person you could meet. Something must have snapped in him," said Ceila.
While some family members believe something went terribly wrong Sunday, others believe the murder was an act of self defense.
A preliminary hearing for Jones has been set for August 2.
Richwood Police Chief Shane Boggs told WSAZ.com that Timothy Michael Jones pulled out a .22 caliber long rifle, and shot James Ronald “Ronnie” Ellison in the head.
Jones has been arrested and charged with murder.
Chief Boggs said he is still trying to determine the motive, but witnesses say the two were arguing over a car.
