ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An elderly woman wedged her car in between a power pole and a building in St. Albans after blacking out while driving.
Police say Rena Byrd struck the building near the intersection of Kanawha Terrace and B Street.
Byrd told paramedics that she blacked out and didn’t know what happened.
The car ran up on a curb and sidewalk and became wedged between the building and a utility pole.
The building, which houses Universal Health Club and Teays Physical Therapy Center, received minor damage. The pole had moderate damage and the car received disabling damage.
Byrd was taken to Thomas Memorial Hospital as a precaution. She was not thought to have any injury related to the crash.
Latest Comments
It is very easy for the elderly to get a drivers licence. The RTA instructor who passed them for a licence should be charged. If they had any decency they would not go for the licence renewal.
After reading some of the comments you all are just mean! If more people would volunteer to take older people to the doctor, store, and church they wouldn't have to drive. If you want them off the road get off your rump and help your community instead of bashing them. This lady blacked out which could have happened to any of us no matter the age. We should be thanking God that she was not killed and didn't hit anyone else. She prob. feels bad enough about the whole thing without people bashing her. I heard she was hurt very bad despite what the artice said so those of you who do pray keep her in your prayers like I'm doing.
I WOULD HOPE THE OLDER PEOPLE WOULD KNOW WHEN TO SAY WHEN. IF NOT HOPE. YOU DONT KILL ANYONE
