Kanawha Co. Prosecutor Steps into the Ring for Charity

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- He's known as a hard hitter in the courtroom, but in the boxing ring Mark Plants goes by "The Hammer."

The Kanawha County Prosecutor has been dedicated to protecting victims' rights.

Plants decided to dabble into is old hobby of amateur boxing to help crime victims.

Friday, Plants will take part in the "Power Beat Down" at Appalachian Power Park.

He is among seven boxers that will take part in the matches.

Proceeds will benefit the Starlena Pratt Foundation. In 2008, Pratt was set on fire by her boyfriend and later died from her injuries.

Gates open at 7 p.m. The first match starts at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $25.
