UPDATE: Wednesday 8/4 @ 11:30 p.m.
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An elderly woman is still healing and speaking out after three men forced their way inside her home, tied her up and demanded prescription drugs.
Neighbors were initially in shock, saying Kenna Homes in South Charleston is one of the safest places to live.
The victim says she still has vivid memories of what happened on Monday afternoon.
"Somebody knocked on the door and I thought it was one of my grandsons and I opened the door," Alberta "Bertie" Baber said.
At her apartment door was a different man, however, asking for someone that didn't even live there. Baber has only lived at Kenna Homes since March.
"He kind of stepped back and I started to close the door and all of a sudden, oop!" Baber said. "They pushed me right down into the rocking chair."
Three men forced their way inside her two-bedroom apartment and bound the 77-year-old to the rocking chair with duct tape.
"They tried their best to put tape over my mouth and I begged them, please don't do that, I can't breathe," Baber said. "I'm aetsmatic and I cannot breathe, but they did tape my hands and tried to tape my feet."
Baber added, "They didn't do a very good job and I did do some kicking and tried to scratch"
The intruders cut her phone lines and demanded prescription drugs.
"Finally one of them said all we want is your pills and money," she said. "I said 'I don't have any.'"
All of this happened behind closed doors on what many consider a peaceful apartment community. Police say the three men are still on the run and she's just hoping they'll be caught and prevent anything like this from happening to someone else.
Even after the traumatic experience, Baber says she worries about the young men that got away with only $40.
"I just feel so bad for them," she said. "I know it had to be drugs but that's all I can do is pray for them and pray that we do get them before it gets any worse for them."
Now, physical signs are all that remain including bruises to her arms, back and around her waist.
"It's going to take a while for the bruises to go away but they'll heal," Baber said.
Detectives came back to Baber's apartment Wednesday, showing her dozens of pictures of potential suspects. She says none of the men looked like the three that tied her up and robbed her.
Police say the suspects are in their 20's and got away in a dark-colored pickup truck. A neighbor says two of the men were wearing jeans and another was wearing a red sweatshirt with a number eight on the back.

ORIGINAL STORY: Monday 8/2
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Police say three people broke into an elderly woman's home, tied her up and demanded prescription drugs.
It happened around 3 o'clock Monday afternoon at Kenna Homes apartments off MacCorkle Avenue in South Charleston.
Police say three men knocked on the woman's apartment door and pushed their way inside. Once they got in, they bound the woman to a chair with duct tape and began looking for prescription drugs.
Now the apartment community has been shaken and many people are still in shock. Detectives processed the scene to look for any clues that could lead them to possible suspects late Monday afternoon.
"It's hard for me to believe in broad daylight that somebody would break into someone's apartment like that," neighbor Joyce Osborne said. "Then to tie her up like that, I'm really surprised, she was no threat to them at 77 years of age."
Neighbors at Kenna Homes may be a little older, but they're constantly watching out.
"I saw their faces," Loretta James said. "I didn't pay much attention at first but whenever they ran I knew something was wrong."
Police say it was a home invasion style robbery. The young men stole prescription drugs from the woman and then took off in a dark-colored pickup truck. The family says the 77-year-old has only lived there for a few months. They are still trying to figure out why she was a target.
"I don't understand why they would do something like that," the victim's grandson Robert Baber said "She's safe and she's ok, but just shaken up."
The woman was able to get out of her apartment and get help at the rental office. Now the community is fearing for their safety and still trying to understand what happened.
"I was shocked because this is the safest place in South Charleston to live," Osborne said. "Like most people, we'll open the door but I don't think people will be opening the door so freely now."
"You can forgive somebody like that but you'll never forget," Baber said. "She'll probably keep her door locked and be a little less trusting."
A neighbor says she saw the three boys run off into the parking lot. One of the men was wearing a red sweatshirt with a number 8 on the back and the other two were just wearing blue jeans and solid colored shirts.
If you have any information on this home invasion robbery, call South Charleston Police.

What a shame those boys hurt that Grandmother. Wonder how they would feel if someone did that to their loved one? Perhaps someone knows them, turn them in before they kill the next victim. If they would have covered that poor womans face they would be guilty of murder. Folks in that community are upset and mad and on the look of who is in their community. they invaders are nothing more than cowards and scum. Cowards for picking on on elderly woman-- and scum for doing so. They want to be on the jury of these cowards/scun/boys. These coward/scum/boys should be tied up with their own duct tape and beat down to see how it feels. I hope they are found or someone turns them in. They need come quality time in So. Central Reg. Jail.
OK this week a mom leaves her children in a burning house to save herself, someone kills an innocent homeless guy, a jerk walks in and steals from a church while the church service is going on, and an elderly woman is tied up with duct tape while robbed? What's going on people? We need to start standing up for the innocent and the ones who can't defend themselves! I know I would if given the chance. I always keep my eyes out for the elderly and children to make sure they don't get hurt. I am glad they didn't hurt this poor woman other then making her feel unsafe in her own home. Shame on you, you filthy criminals!
The real scary thing is a recent ruling by State Court was, they didnt find it illegal for people who have prescription meds to crush and snort them.Makes me wonder how many of our law makers abuse there meds?
