UPDATE 9/10/13
JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Family and friends are remembering the young victim of a car crash in Prestonsburg on Friday.

The driver of one of the vehicles, Paula McConnell, 58, of Prestonsburg died the day of the accident.

On Monday, one of her passenger 10-year-old, Donovan Floyd of Paintsville, died at a Huntington hospital. McConnell was Floyd's great-aunt.

“At 8:36 this morning he passed away, he had been on life support since the accident," says Donovan's grandmother, Darla Dean.

Dean says Donovan, "liked to do all the things little boys like to do, play out in the yard on a sunny day, play with his puppy, just any little boy thing."

On Sunday, hundreds showed support for the 10-year-old by holding a prayer vigil and lighting candles along the bridge to Highland Elementary.

"We were naturally all devastated when I received the phone call," says Principal Thom Cochran.

"We know there's going to be a lot of questions, as adults we have a lot of questions. Hopefully, we can answer them or give them the help they need to try and understand why," says Tim Adams, Director of District Operations.

The flag at Highland Elementary is flying at half staff in honor of Donovan.

"We have a very strong community. Support...I guess we take it for granted and don't realize how much support we have until there is a need," Cochran says.

Support that family members say they are thankful for during this difficult time.

"We live in an amazing community, everyone has rallied around Donovan and us," says Dean.

Donovan was honored at the Highland girl’s basketball game Monday night.

"He will always be in our hearts and he will always be a Highland Wildcat," says Cochran.
