UPDATE 4/8/13 @ 11:15 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Charleston Police are investigating a shootout at an apartment complex Monday that caught two homes in the line of fire.

Detectives say shots rang out at the Orchard Manor complex just after 7 p.m. Monday. They say four suspects were involved in a shootout in the 2000 block of Hutchinson Street.

Police say some of the suspects were shooting from inside a vehicle, while others were outside attempting to run to another car.

Two random apartments were struck by stray bullets, according to police. No one was injured in the shootout.

Tenant Eric White says he immediately ran outside when he heard the shots fired.

"I heard 'pow, pow, pow,' and I thought somebody let off fireworks," he said. "It's dangerous for everybody ... you could have been making a bowl of cereal and then gotten shot."

White has two children and says the shooting makes him worry for their safety.

"Hopefully the streets get a little safer," he said.

Police say children were playing outside at the time of the shootout and could have been struck by the gunfire.

They have identified all of the suspects involved and expect arrests to follow soon. No names were being released late Monday night.

There's no word yet on a motive behind the shootout, or whether any of the suspects live in the complex.
