ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Ashland City Commissioners hope to announce a new city manager Monday.

During a meeting Thursday, Mayor Chuck Charles says commissioners went into executive session. They discussed potential candidates for the job.

Commissioner Kevin Gunderson tells WSAZ.com they have reached a consensus and are waiting to see if that person will accept the position.

After executive session, they recessed until Monday. Mayor Charles says at that time, they hope to announce the new manager.

Gunderson says current City Manager Steve Corbitt is retiring.

Gunderson tells WSAZ.com they used a consulting firm and narrowed down the 59 applicants to six. One of those dropped out and last week, they interviewed five candidates.

Gunderson says two of the candidates are local, and three are from outside the area.

Commissioners have not released the names of the candidates.

The new city manager is expected to take over around December 1.
