Athens City Council Approves New Budget and Pay Raise

ATHENS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Members of Athens City Council will make a little more money starting in 2014.

At Monday night's council meeting, members passed an ordinance establishing a $7,537 salary in 2014 and $7,612 salary in 2015. That's a one percent raise.

The council president will make $9,375 in 2014 and $9,469 in 2015.

City council also approved the 2013 budget. The budget is $33.7 million.

The General Fun total is $12.7 million. That's used to run the police and fire departments. Each department gets about a $3 million budget.
