CHESHIRE, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The driver of an ambulance that was involved in a crash over the weekend has been cited.
The crash happened just before 8 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of State Route 554 and State Route 7 in Cheshire.
Sgt. M.J. Roe with the Ohio Highway Patrol tells WSAZ.com that the ambulance was traveling south on State Route 7, crossed the center line and hit a car head-on. The impact of the crash forced the car to crash into another vehicle.
Alfred W. Lyons, 49, of Pomeroy, was driving the ambulance. Lyons has been cited with going left of center.
Lyons, another passenger in the ambulance, and a patient being transported in the ambulance, were all taken to local hospitals.
The driver and passenger of the car that were hit head-on, as well as the driver in the third vehicle that was hit, were also taken to local hospitals.
No word on any of their conditions.
The road was shut down for nearly an hour while crews worked to clean up the scene.
Gallia County Sheriff's Office Dispatchers tell us the ambulance was southbound on Route 7 when it crashed before 8 p.m. Saturday.
Sheriff's Deputies, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Meigs County Fire & Rescue and ABLE EMS are on the scene.
The road is shut down until further notice, and cars are being detoured through Cheshire.
