HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A suspect in a deadly shooting in Huntington is now back in West Virginia.

Earlier this month, police in a suburb of Detroit arrested Terry "Boots" Morton during a traffic stop. Morton is wanted in connection with the murder of 25-year-old Christopher Carter.

Police say Morton and Tyerus Hayes were fighting with Carter at an apartment in Barboursville. That's when police say Morton pulled out a handgun and shot Carter three times.

Investigators say Carter's girlfriend stole heroin from Hayes and Morton.

West Virginia State Police tell WSAZ.com Terry "Boots" Morton was arrested by the FBI in Redford, Michigan, Saturday night.

Police say officers tried to stop a car he was in about 7 p.m. but the driver took off and led police on a high speed chase before a crash.

Morton did try to run following the crash but was caught, according to officers. Morton is at the Redford Police Department pending extradition.

Morton is wanted in connection with the murder of 25-year-old Christopher Carter.

According to the arrest warrant, Morton and Tyerus Hayes were fighting with Carter at an apartment in Barboursville. Police say Morton pulled out a handgun and shot Carter three times.

Investigators say Carter's girlfriend stole heroin from Hayes and Morton.

No word on when Morton will be brought back to Cabell County.

Tyerus B. Hayes, also called "Tank," was arrested in Gwinnett County, Georgia on a fugitive from justice warrant on March 1.

Hayes, 29, of Detroit, and Terry “Boots” Morton were wanted in connection with the murder of Chris Carter, 25, of Huntington, on January 2.

West Virginia State Police went to Georgia Friday to pick up Hayes. He was arraigned before a Cabell County Magistrate shortly after arriving in Huntington about 9 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators say Carter’s girlfriend allegedly stole heroin from Hayes and Morton.

According to the arrest warrant, the two suspects were fighting with Carter at an apartment in Barboursville when Morton pulled out a handgun and shot Carter three times.

The criminal complaint also indicates that both Hayes and Morton had made threats to kill people that had stolen from them.

State Police are still looking for Morton who is also from the Detroit area.

CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Court documents reveal new information about last weeks murder at an apartment complex near Barbousville.

The shooting happened at the Forest Bluff Apartments last Wednesday night.

Christopher Carter, 25, of Huntington, was shot three times and died after being taken to a Huntington hospital.

W.Va. State Police have charged Terry, aka “Boots”, Morton and Tyerus, aka “Tank”, Hayes, both believed to be from the Detroit area, with Carter's murder.

Investigators believed the shooting was drug related and now that information is confirmed in court documents.

According to the arrest warrant, the two suspects were in a physical altercation with Carter when Morton pulled out a handgun and shot Carter.

Authorities say they later gained information that Carter's girlfriend had allegedly stolen heroin from Morton and Hayes several days earlier. The arrest warrant also indicates that another person involved in the case said that the suspects had made threats to “kill people that had stolen from them.”

West Virginia State Police tell WSAZ.com that the FBI and U.S. Marshals Service are now assisting in tracking down both men who are believed to have fled the state following the shooting.

State Police did make one arrest in the case several hours after the shooting. Jonathon Robert Yeager, 24, of Barboursville, was arrested on a drug possession charge.

Troopers say during a search of Yeager's home they found heroin, powdered cocaine, digital scales, ledgers and other drug paraphernalia.

Trooper Hash with the WVSP tells WSAZ.com that several agencies already had ongoing investigations going in connection with Yeager even before the shooting incident.

Investigators tell WSAZ.com that Yeager was at the apartment on the day of the shooting.

Murder warrants have been issued for both Morton and Hayes. They are believed to have left the area.
