BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A teenage girl driving a Ford Excursion that plunged over a hill Monday evening in the 600-block of Water Street escaped serious injury, Cabell County Sheriff Tom McComas said.

The SUV plunged toward the Guyandotte River, and rescue crews used a winch to stabilize the vehicle as the girl was rescued. McComas said the vehicle fell about 25 feet toward the Guyandotte River. It didn't actually land in the water.

McComas said the girl has minor injuries -- considering the serious nature of the crash. The accident was reported about 7:45 p.m. Monday.
