UPDATE 1/2/13 @ 10 p.m.
MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Two mothers are spending their new year making funeral arrangements for their sons.

"We both have lost our sons, and we'll never have that back," Christine Napper said standing alongside family friend Wendy Hubbard.

"He was very special to me,” Wendy said of her son. “He was a really good boy. He'd do anything I'd ask. He was wonderful."

Their sons, 24-year-old Dave Hubbard and 31-year-old David Napper, both of Middleport, were riding a side-by-side ATV northbound on Happy Hollow Road in Rutland Monday night.

Michelle French and her boyfriend were in a car headed the opposite direction. Ohio State Highway Patrol says about 8:30, they collided head on.

"She said all they saw were headlights coming up over the hill,” French’s aunt Missy Young said. “It scared them to death. She called, she was hysterical, really tore up."

Hubbard’s father David Hubbard Sr. went to the scene Monday night when he heard about the crash.

"I looked down and saw a blanket and uncovered him and found my son and cried and hugged and kissed and said my goodbyes," he said.

Lt. Max Norris with Ohio State Highway Patrol says it is illegal to ride an ATV on that road.

Hubbard's father says his son, who was driving the ATV, had been drinking.

Norris tells WSAZ.com the initial report indicates the ATV crossed the center line, but the families of the men who died say they've heard conflicting accounts, and they just want a proper investigation.

“I want the truth to come out,” Hubbard said. “I don't want this swept under the rug."

Norris says reconstruction units are analyzing the crash and gathering more data, and toxicology reports are pending.
