Arrest Made in Charleston Bank Robbery

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Charleston police have released the identity of the man arrested in a Wednesday morning bank robbery.

Police say Basil Smith, 37, of Charleston, was arrested just three blocks away from the WesBanco on Tennessee Avenue.

Police say the robbery suspect did not show a gun during the bank robbery. No one was injured.

Smith will be arraigned at noon at Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Just minutes after a bank robbery in Charleston, police say they caught the suspect just down the street.

911 dispatchers tell WSAZ.com the robbery was reported just after 9 a.m. at WesBanco on Tennessee Avenue.

The suspect is in custody and will be arraigned at Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

Police say an officer responding to the robbery was involved in a crash at the intersection of Virginia Street and Tennessee Avenue.

No other information is being released at this time.
