UPDATE 6/18/13 @ 11 p.m.
FLATWOODS, Ky. (WSAZ) – The search for a bank robbery suspect continues after a hold-up late Tuesday afternoon at the PNC Bank along Argillite Road in Flatwoods.

It happened about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Neighbors say seeing a gunman running right through town is alarming, to say the least.

Flatwoods resident Pamela Johnson's world was turned upside down when the bank in her community became the target of an armed robbery.

"It's a wonderful neighborhood, and for something like this to happen ... it's unthinkable," Johnson said.

Even without knowledge of a suspect, Johnson blames it on drugs. She's not alone. People in Flatwoods are quick to acknowledge the cancerous problem plaguing Appalachian towns and many other parts of the country.

"You can pretty much tell when someone's taking meth how it's affecting them,” Flatwoods City Councilman Ray Sloan said. “If they could see what it's doing to their friends, I couldn't see why they'd want to do it to themselves."

It’s the talk of town, and it makes folks living in town start to really question what they have to tolerate.

"When I first moved into this little town, the kids played everywhere,” Johnson said. “But now they can't even get out into their front yard, just because of things like this."

Police will only say their suspect is a man who took off on foot.
