CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) — Bargain shoppers started a little earlier this year- opting to shop on Thanksgiving rather than wait until Black Friday.

“We don't go out on black Friday, too crazy,” South Charleston neighbor Christy Dale said.

A recently published survey by the National Retail Federation shows nearly 140 million people plan to shop this holiday weekend. That’s down slightly from last year though this year nearly 25 % of people plan on shopping on Thanksgiving.

“Normally people want to do the Black Friday thing but we thought we'd do it a little early,” said Dustin Williams of Charleston, adding, “Usually we go on Black Fridays but this year we decided to go a little early, you know go against the grain a little bit.”

Christy and Dale Lucas tell they’ve been shopping on Thanksgiving for more than a decade.

“It's a tradition for us,” Christy said,” We put our turkey in the oven and while it's baking we come over and see some of the specials and look for some of the things for our grandchildren.”
