GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A barn fire took the lives of some animals Monday afternoon.
The fire was reported just before 2 p.m. in the 1700 block of Bulaville Pike.
Gallipolis Fire Chief Keith Elliott tells WSAZ.com one barn was destroyed and the fire had started to spread to another barn before they were able to get it under control.
Elliott says a few goats and ducks died in the fire. There were several animals that were also injured.
Crews are still on the scene and say they will likely be there for several more hours.
At this time, Chief Elliott says there is too much damage to determine the origin of the fire.
He says they will likely call in the Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office to assist in the investigation. This is the second fire on the property in the past year, according to the chief.
The Springfield Township and Rio Grande Fire Departments assisted in fighting the fire.
