UPDATE 3/6/14 @ 11:45 p.m.
WAYNE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A family is devastated after a search for a missing man ended with a body found in a creek.
42-year-old Mark Spurlock was reported missing after he didn't come home Wednesday night.
Family and friends spent Thursday combing the woods in the East Lynn area.
"We prayed, we searched, we did everything we could to try to find him,” said Courtney Carrico, who is Spurlock’s wife’s cousin.
About 4:30 p.m., one of the searchers spotted Spurlock's body in Twelve Pole Creek along Route 37, about 200 yards downstream from his home.
State Police say his death appears to be accidental, and the investigation is ongoing pending the results of an autopsy.
Relatives tell WSAZ.com Spurlock was last seen about 9 p.m. Wednesday walking to a neighbor's house, but he never made it there.
"(Spurlock) was a proud dad,” cousin Tonia White said, “and they loved their dad as much as he loved them. It's going to be heartbreaking to all of them."
White says Spurlock had just welcomed his first grandchild into the world a week ago. Now the family is suddenly dealing with tragedy.
"They lost a wonderful person,” Carrico said. “That's a hole you're not going to be able to fill."
Family members of Mark Spurlock say his body was found in Twelve Pole Creek in East Lynn about 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
