CRIME ALERT: Neighbors Watching for Front Porch Burglar

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A crook has been caught on camera in Huntington. He's stealing packages from front porches.

Now, people in the neighborhood are on alert, as the brazen burglar goes door-to-door.

Neighbors said they've seen him before. In fact, one of them followed the man down the street and snapped a few more photos as he targeted other homes.

The video is astonishingly clear.

"I'm sure it's happened to other people," said Christina Bailey.

Police said a man is walking around 12th Avenue and Huntington's South Side, on the hunt for your packages.

He was caught on surveillance video last week.

"That really made me nervous because he cut right through my yard, and I don't like the fact that someone so close had something stolen," Bailey said.

Rightfully so, Bailey lives just feet from the home in the surveillance video.

"I'm a stay-at-home mom, so I'm home during the day most of the time, and if we're going to have a package delivered, I make sure to keep an ear out for it," Bailey said.

Now, neighbors are keeping a closer watch on the street and their front porches.

"It's kind of frustrating, having a young son, too. People are coming on to your property. It just makes you more careful about what you leave out," neighbor Josh Tackett said.

People who live on 12th Avenue said the man in the video has been spotted several times. One neighbor followed him down the street and snapped a few photos.

"We want to make sure we get the stuff that we paid for," Tackett said.

For neighbors like Bailey, the concern isn't just about the packages, but other things.

"Are they going to try the door, see if it's unlocked, are they going to go check your car door handle see if they can get in there?" Bailey said. "It's a little unnerving sometimes," she said. wanted to know what happens if your package is stolen.

A FedEx spokesperson said if your package is stolen, call police and file a report immediately.

Then, the spokesperson said you should get in touch with the company you purchased the product from and report the theft.

FedEx said both will work together to track the package or replace the product, or even give you a refund.

Both UPS and FedEx also said they have tools you can use to track the packages.

If you recognize the man in the video, you're asked to call Huntington Police.
