Car Break-Ins Plague Kanawha County Town
KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- In recent weeks, Marmet has seen its fair share of criminal activity.
Two weeks ago, a church pastor was beaten with a wooden club by an alleged burglar.
Last week, someone stole copper wire from the town’s Christmas star.
Now, you can add car break-ins to the list of crimes.
"Now that, you know, you mention that -- it makes me want to go make sure everything is locked up in my truck," Marmet resident Josh White said.
White is a race car driver who carries a lot of pricey racing items in his truck, and he doesn’t want to become the next victim.
"I think it's a horrible thing," he said. "You know, I'd hate for my car to get broken in because I've got a lot of expensive equipment that I carry around occasionally. You know, I go hunting and then when I go race I've got my race suit and my helmet and stuff."
Marmet Mayor Billy Pauley says there’s a simple fix to this problem.
"If people would lock their cars up, make sure they're secure -- especially when they've got packages in there -- cause some kid comes along; he's going to get in the car and see if he can find some change or packages, whatever he can get. That's most of our trouble right there," Pauley said.
