UPDATE 11/14/13 @ 9:30 p.m.
CARTER COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ ) – Two men trusted to uphold the law in Carter County have been charged with separate crimes in the span of two days.
Kentucky State Police arrested Reserve Deputy Tracy Dickerson, 61, of Grayson Thursday.
Sheriff Casey Brammel says he relieved Dickerson of his position last month after he learned Dickerson was a convicted felon.
Brammel says Dickerson wasn’t paid for his role with the sheriff’s office, in which Dickerson did prisoner transports and served civil papers.
The sheriff says Dickerson was given a background check when he began at the department about a year and a half ago, and he doesn't know how the fact that Dickerson was a convicted felon got overlooked.
"He somehow slipped through,” Brammel said. “The felony didn't show up when criminal history was run."
Dickerson is now charged with possession of a handgun, which was issued by the sheriff's office and carried up until his suspension.
The Sheriff says Dickerson’s felony conviction came in 1996 for failure to pay child support.
Kentucky State Police are investigating how Dickerson was working for the sheriff's department despite being a convicted felon.
Wednesday, court bailiff Earl Buckler was arrested, accused of sexually assaulting a female inmate at the Carter County Detention Center.

"I know right now the department has a black eye,” Brammel said. “That's just something we have to work through. I do hope the community doesn't give up hope or trust in us.”
