LOGAN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man is dead after a fight that West Virginia State Police say started over child custody.

State Police say Matthew Dillon, 30, of Belfry, Kentucky, got into an argument and a fight with Rex Hale on Cassick Street in Logan on Monday.

They say the argument started over child custody, and that Dillon received fatal injuries in the fight.

Hale was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.

"You would think parents would be able to work things out and not let it come to that, but it's unfortunate that it did,” neighbor James Smith said.

State Police say after the fight broke out, a 6-year-old girl ran out of the house and had a neighbor call 911.

No charges have been filed at this time.

State Police say charges may not be filed, because it appears Hale may have been acting in self defense.
