UPDATE 8/14/14 @ 6:18 p.m.
PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Family members are in heartache after a little boy drowns in his family's pool.
Landyn Fields was just three years old.
His mother found him unresponsive in their backyard pool around 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Now, investigators are waiting for the results of an autopsy to determine whether charges will be filed.
Meanwhile, the family is mourning the loss of their little guy, who they said was about to turn four years old.
"Landyn lived here most of the time, it's a tragic accident, in which a family lost a beautiful vibrant little baby," said family member, Natalie Laliberty.
It's a familiar summertime tragedy surrounding a pool.
Landyn Fields was found lifeless in the water Wednesday night.
His mother rushed to call 911.
Investigators said the pool's liner was torn and it filled with rainwater.
"It went from a three foot to a nine foot depth," said Putnam County Sheriff, Steve Deweese.
Neighbors described the family's screams, going on for five to six minutes.
"The mother and the grandmother tried for probably ten minutes to revive him, there was two ambulances here, they tried to work on him here before they even got him in the ambulance, and it just wasn't meant to be," said Laliberty.
Deputies said Landyn was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after he was found. His body is at the center of the investigation and the possibility of charges.
"It'll depend largely on the autopsy report that we receive back from the state medical examiner's office, they'll collaborate that entire totality of investigation, present that to the prosecutor and either, a, arrest or b, indict for a grand jury," said Sheriff Deweese.
Now, instead of a usual summer celebration, the area around that pool is quiet and the family is without their baby boy.
"Rough and tough, he was very big for his age, he loved to wrestle, loved to play legos, loved to play cars," said Laliberty.
The sheriff said the home has a history of 911 calls for domestic violence and also several calls to chid protective services.
He also said the father has a history of arrests for larceny.
The sheriff told WSAZ.com, he believes this is the first drowning case they've responded to since his time in office.
Investigators said the pool hadn't been used for several years.
Family members said the parents tried to pump out rainwater fairly often.
But, they said it was tough to keep up because the father needs extra medical care.
