POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- We now know the name of the young boy who was hit and killed Sunday by a truck in Point Pleasant.
The Mason County Sheriff's Office tells WSAZ.com that Earnest Trey McCarty, 10, of Ashton, was hit about 1:30 p.m. on Sand Hill Road in Point Pleasant.
They say he ran into the road, in front of the truck.
He was taken to a local hospital, where he passed away.
The Sheriff's Office tells WSAZ.com that the accident is still under investigation. Charges have not been filed against the driver.
Trey was a student at Ashton Elementary School in Mason County. Monday, the 5th grade class wrote messages to Trey and attached them to balloons and held a balloon release in his honor.
It happened at about 1:30 p.m. on Sand Hill Road in Point Pleasant.
Police say the boy ran into the road and in front of the pickup.
The boy was taken to Pleasant Valley Hospital where he died.
His name is not being released at this time.
Mason County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.
They say it happened about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
The child was taken to a nearby hospital.
