City Throws Homecoming Parade for Burn Survivor

PT. PLEASANT, Oh (WSAZ) -- People of Gallipolis and Point Pleasant lined the streets of Point Pleasant in a welcome home parade for Tre' Smith.

A caravan of firetrucks and supporters drove from the end of the Bartow Jones Bridge to 28th St.

Organizers estimated about 5,000 people waved and cheered as he and his family drove into town.

Tre's family's home was destroyed in a house fire back in January. He along with his parents and two siblings were trapped inside the home at the time. His brother and sister did not survive.

Tre's dad says that even out of so much tragedy has come a great deal of good.

"It's just been surreal it's been a nightmare but with a silver lining and I'm just thankful to God for what he has done in spite of our pain and our suffering," said Bill Smith.

Smith tells WSAZ.com that Tre still has a lot of healing to do, but is very glad to be home, and his first stop back was to see the family dog, that also survived the fire.
