Elderly Woman's Body Found in River near Gassaway, Name Released

UPDATE 12/4/13 @ 9 a.m.
BRAXTON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Braxton County Sheriff's Department just released the name of a woman found dead in the Elk River in Gassaway.

Deputies say Barbara Chapman was found about 11 a.m. Monday near the bridge going into Gassaway. She was in her 80s.

Her body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. Deputies say they don't believe her death is suspicious.

Investigators say a family member found Chapman's body. Deputies didn't have a missing person's report, but the family was out looking for her when her body was discovered.
