ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A fourth man involved in the beating and stabbing of an elderly woman during a home invasion was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday.

In February, Brandon Barker, 20, pleaded guilty to 14 counts that included attempted murder, kidnapping, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary.

Barker was one of four men who broke into an 82-year-old woman's home in Coolville in January 2012, beat her, stabbed her in the neck and stole several items from her home.

Cody Stout, Colin Stout and Christopher Fleming have already made plea deals in the case.

Cody Stout was sentenced to nine years and nine months in prison.

Colin Stout was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Christopher Fleming was sentenced to 18 years and nine months in prison.

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A fourth man involved in the beating and stabbing of an elderly woman during a home invasion has pleaded guilty to the charges.

Brandon Barker, 20, changed his plea in Athens County Common Pleas Court last week. He pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary.

Baker was one of four men who reportedly broke into an 82-year-old woman's home in Coolville in January 2012, beat her, stabbed her in the neck and stole several items from her home.

Cody Stout, Colin Stout and Christopher Fleming have already made plea deals in the case.

Cody Stout was sentenced to nine years and nine months in prison.

Colin Stout was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Christopher Fleming was sentenced to 18 years and nine months in prison.

Baker will be sentenced in April.



UPDATE 2/4/13
ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Three of four men charged in a home invasion in Coolville, Ohio, in which investigators said an elderly woman was beaten and stabbed, have now agreed to plea deals.

During a hearing Monday in Athens County Common Pleas Court, Colin Wayne Stout pleaded guilty to a multi-count indictment. Stout was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The Athens County Prosecutor says that on January 24, 2012, Christopher Fleming drove Colin Stout, Cody Stout and Brandon Baker to the home of the 82-year-old woman where they broke in, assaulted the woman and stole items from her home.

Investigators said that despite being confused and disoriented, the woman was able to call 911 hours after the attack. She was taken to a hospital in Parkersburg, W.Va., then transferred to a hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where she spent months in rehab.

Back in December, Fleming pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, felonious assault, kidnapping, abduction, tampering with evidence, theft from an elderly person, theft of drugs and theft. An attempted murder charge was dropped as part of the deal. He was then sentenced to a total of nine years and nine months in prison

A month earlier, Cody Stout pleaded guilty to 13 of his 14 charges, including aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and felonious assault. The attempted murder charge was dropped. He was also sentenced to a total of nine years and nine months in prison.

Brandon Baker is scheduled to go to trial later this month.



UPDATE 12/19/12 @ 11:30 a.m.
ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A second man accused of attacking an 82-year-old woman is headed to prison.

Christopher Fleming, 21, of Belpre, Ohio, made a plea deal Wednesday in Athens County.

Fleming was one of four men accused of breaking in an elderly woman's home in Coolville, beating and stabbing her.

Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn says that Fleming drove the other three men to the home the night of the home invasion.

Fleming pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, felonious assault, kidnapping, abduction, tampering with evidence, theft from an elderly person, theft of drugs and theft.

An attempted murder charge was dropped as part of the deal.

Judge Michael Ward sentenced Fleming to 18 years and nine months in prison.

Cody Stout has also made a plea deal in the case and was sentenced to nine years and nine months in prison. His brother, Colin Stout, and Brandon Baker are also charged in the case. Their trials are set for early 2013.

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- One of four men accused of attacking an 82-year-old woman will spend up to a decade behind bars.

Cody Stout, made a plea deal in the violent home invasion that happened in January in Coolville, in Athens County.

Stout, along with his brother Colin, Christopher Fleming, and Brandon Baker were all arrested in connection with the home invasion.

Back in January an 82-year-old woman was beaten and stabbed inside her home. She underwent several months of rehabilitation.

Tuesday in court, Cody Stout pleaded guilty to 13 of his 14 charges, including aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and felonious assault.

The attempted murder charge was dropped.

The Athens County Prosecutor's Office says Cody Stout admitted to being at the woman's home, but says he never went inside.

As part of his plea agreement, Cody Stout will testify against the other three suspects and will never have contact with the victim again.

Cody Stout was sentenced to nine years and nine months in prison after making the plea deal.

The trials for the other three suspects are set for early next year.

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A fourth person has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of an 82-year-old woman during a home invasion.

According to a release from Athens County Sheriff Patrick Kelly, Cody Stout, 23, of Coolville, is being charged with complicity to commit aggravated burglary and felonious assault.

Three others, Christopher Fleming, 20, Brandon C. Baker, both of Belpre, Ohio, and Colin Stout, 20, of Coolville, Ohio, were charged Tuesday in connection with the violent home invasion.

Ota Vincent, 82, of Coolville, Ohio, was badly beaten and stabbed in the neck and shoulder during a home invasion. The attackers entered her home by kicking in the front door. That attack happened Jan. 24, 2012.

According to the release, additional charges are expected on all four suspects from a future grand jury.

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Three men were arrested Tuesday in connection with the brutal beating and stabbing of an elderly woman who spent months recovering in the hospital, according to information from Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly.

Christopher Fleming, 20, and Brandon C. Baker, both of Belpre, Ohio, and Colin Stout, 20, of Coolville, Ohio, all were arrested at home.

Fleming is charged with complicity to aggravated burglary and felonious assault; Baker is charged with aggravated burglary and felonious assault; and Stout is charged with aggravated burglary and felonious assault. All of those charges are felonies.

The suspects confessed, Kelly said.

Ota Vincent, 82, of Coolville, Ohio, was badly beaten and stabbed in the neck and shoulder during a home invasion. The attackers entered her home by kicking in the front door. That attack happened Jan. 24, 2012.

Despite being confused and disoriented, Vincent was able to call 911 hours after the attack. She was taken to a hospital in Parkersburg, W.Va., then transferred to a hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where she spent months in rehab.

Kelly credits Athens County Sheriff’s Detective Jack Taylor and the Washington County Sheriff’s Special Response Team for helping apprehend the three suspects.

Bond for each suspect was set at $100,000, and all three were taken to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail in Nelsonville. They are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for a video arraignment.

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The 80-year-old woman who was assaulted and stabbed in her home Monday night remains in stable condition at a Columbus hospital.

Athens County Sheriff Patrick Kelly says the woman called 911 Tuesday morning and said someone entered her home along Brandeberry Road in Coolville Monday night, then beat and stabbed her.

Sheriff Kelly says the woman was not able to call 911 until about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday after being unconscious from the attack.

She was first taken to a hospital in Parkersburg, and then transferred to a Columbus hospital.

Kelly says the woman suffered several stab wounds and was assaulted in the face. Investigators hope to talk to her later Wednesday.

As this time, investigators do not have a suspect.

Robbery and theft of drugs is the suspected motive.

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Athens County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a home invasion where an 80-year-old woman was assaulted and stabbed.

Sheriff Patrick Kelly says the woman called 911 Tuesday morning and said someone entered her home along Brandeberry Road in Coolville Monday night, then beat and stabbed her.

The woman said she could not remember anything other than seeing a light shining in her face. It is believed she was unconscious from the time of the attack until she called 911 about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Deputies suspect robbery as the motive for the attack. They say her purse containing $300 is missing.

The woman had lacerations to her face and stab wounds to the chest. She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg, W.Va., where she is in stable condition.
