CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The fast and center lanes of I-64 West at the Fort Hill Bridge in Charleston are closed because of emergency bridge repairs.

Dispatchers say the on-ramp to I-64 west at Virginia Street is also closed because of the repairs.

A spokesperson with the Division of Highways says the repair is related to the ongoing road work on the bridge.

Brent Walker tells WSAZ.com crews have been working on the expansion joints where the decks of the bridge connect. Some bolts started to come out of a cover and they caused the tires on some vehicles to blow out.

The contractor is at the site to make the repairs in the area that are reported to be causing damage to vehicles.

The contractor hopes to have the repairs completed by 4 p.m.

WSAZ.com has a crew on the scene and it's reporting traffic is already backed up to the Leon Sullivan exit.
