Christmas Eve Surprise for Fiance at Airport

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Families eagerly awaited their loved ones at Yeager Airport on Christmas Eve as loved ones stepped off their planes, returning home just in the nick of time for the holiday.

April Rectenwald got engaged two months ago. Her fiancé Dusty O’Brien has been working on the other side of the country in California.

O’Brien flew in expecting to go to her family’s home in Jackson County and surprise her, but she beat him to it, surprising him shortly after he came into Yeager Airport.

"It's really special,” Dusty said. “That's the whole point of the holidays is to be with family. Being thousands of miles away is inconvenient, so it's good to be home for the holidays."

Tom Parker's family greeted his son Chris, who lives in Washington D.C.

After opening presents and having Christmas dinner together in Huntington, they're turning around and heading back to Chris's home for the Military Bowl.

"We're all big Herd fans,” Parker said. “We bleed green. It made it special when we found out that's where they're going to play."
