WAYNE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A fire that claimed the life of a woman appears to be accidental, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.
The fire happened around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 3600 block of Paddle Creek Road in Fort Gay. Firefighters say the home was completely on fire when they arrived on scene.
A family friend says the victim is 66-year-old Diana Robertson.
The State Fire Marshal's Office tells WSAZ.com the victim had a disability and needed help getting around.
Diane's mother-in-law Hazel Robertson, who lives down the road, says she heard an explosion.
"(Diane) was on oxygen,” Hazel said. “You could hear the tanks blowing up from my porch out there.”
The State Fire Marshal's Office says the fire started in the living room and appears to be accidental. They say the victim was sitting in a chair in the living room when the fire started.
Firefighters on scene told WSAZ.com the victim's daughter had just left for work when the call came in.
They say the victim's son, identified by a family friend as Frank, tried to go into the home and rescue his mother.
"When he got up he noticed her house was on fire," Hazel said. "He broke a window out and got in the house. He couldn't get in the door or nothing."
The son was taken to the hospital. The State Fire Marshal's Office says he suffered from smoke inhalation.
His family says he should be released from the hospital Wednesday.
The victim's body will be sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for positive identification and to determine the cause of death.
The State Fire Marshal's Office says they have not been able to determine if there were working smoke detectors in the home.

The fire was reported Tuesday morning in the 36-hundred block of Paddle Creek Road in Fort Gay.
Emergency crews tell WSAZ.com the woman's daughter had just left the trailer when the fire was reported.
Firefighters say the woman's son tried to go in the trailer and rescue her, but it was too late. The man was taken to the hospital. No word on the extent of his injuries.
Firefighters say the woman who died was an invalid.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is on scene. No other details are being released at this time.
