UPDATE 2/6/14 @ 11:40 p.m.
FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The investigation into an accident involving a Fayette County school bus is ongoing.

The bus crashed into the side of a hill and a utility pole near the Montgomery bridge on Wednesday.

Gary Hough, Head of Transportation for Fayette County Schools, tells WSAZ.com he has maintained close contact with parents and that school system representatives were in the hospital with every child transported for care.

Hough says there were neck and back injuries and some concerns about concussions among students on the bus.

Transportation officials said they were able to pull the bus's video recordings which should help investigators determine what caused the crash.

UPDATE 2/5/14 @ 9:45 p.m.
FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A student aboard a bus that veered off Route 61 and hit a rock wall, sending 15 students to the hospital Wednesday afternoon, said it was a normal commute that instantly turned terrifying.

"It was crazy," senior Jacob Sargent said.

Sargent said their bus veered off a narrow section of Route 61 near the Montgomery-Fayette county line and hit the rock wall. The accident happened about 3 p.m. Wednesday.

"Our ceiling was coming in," he said. "We had smoke. The front of the bus was collapsed in."

Firefighters say 15 Valley High and Junior High students were taken to the hospital. Most of the injuries were described as sore backs and necks -- nothing that appeared too serious.

News of the wreck spread quickly on social media, and some very concerned parents showed up at the scene.

Brian Wright has a son in 7th grade who was on the bus.

"It's a shame when you have to find out about a school bus wreck with kids through Facebook,” Wright said.

Sargent, who works as a volunteer firefighter, put his training to use immediately following the accident.

"At first I grabbed the first-aid kit and put gloves on, and I actually went around and helped the kids who were bleeding to make sure they put pressure on their bleeding to make it stop," Sargent said.

Students and parents were just relieved this scare wasn't any worse.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation.

A school official says the driver will undergo drug testing. His name has not been released.
