ELIZABETH, W.Va. (AP) -- A former Wirt County teacher will serve 15 days in jail for embezzling from a band boosters club.
Christy Wilson also must perform up to 300 hours of community service and make restitution of almost $9,000 to the Wirt County Board of Education.
The 39-year-old Wilson pleaded guilty to embezzlement in December. Wirt County Circuit Court Judge Robert Waters sentenced Wilson on Tuesday.
Wilson told the judge that she took $3,600 from the Wirt County Band Boosters Club and used the money to pay bills. She was the club's treasurer at the time.
Prosecutors say almost $9,000 was taken.
Wilson formerly taught at the Wirt County Primary Center and was a softball coach. The school board fired her in January.
