HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Many grandparents are known for spoiling their grandkids, but one grandmother was arrested after police say she had her grandchildren beg for money.
According the criminal complaint, the grandmother, 60-year-old Annetta Sexton, was arrested and charged with panhandling after she used two of her grandchildren to beg for money Friday from people on the 800 block of 4th Avenue in Huntington.
The complaint says CPS went to Sexton and the grandchildren’s home in the 600 block of Virginia Avenue. It says there the children’s father stated “he had the children beg for money and has done so for years.”
We talked with neighbors who didn't want to talk on camera for fear of repercussions. They said this has been going on for years.
The neighbors said those kids would knock on their doors, and they would give the kids food or something to drink, but never money.
The children's father Jeff Roth says his mother is disabled, and he expects the charge to be dropped. He says she can't hear or talk.
He also says he’s been arrested twice.
He says his mother is due back in court Wednesday.
