Habitat Builds Home For Wayne County Family After Spring Tornado
DUNLOW, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Habitat for Humanity's newest home is being built for a couple in Wayne County who survived the deadly tornado that made its way through Dunlow in March.
"We were watching you on WSAZ when the satellite went out," Josh Toney. "I heard the wind, and I told my wife to grab the kid and get in the basement."
Toney and his family live in Dunlow in a rental home that was badly damaged by the tornado. The roof shifted; holes are now covered by tarps where trees came crashing down.
Toney is a mechanic who works 12 hours a day, six days a week.
"I'm really excited," he said. "This would be the first home I've owned myself."
Wayne County Habitat for Humanity is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity to build the Toneys a new place to live. It's one of 25 Habitat homes being built for Habitat's 25th anniversary in West Virginia.
"We just feel so blessed," Vanessa Toney said. "We're excited to finally have a place to call our own."
