GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- "One dream, one team, one Holzer" -- that's the new motto for a consolidated Holzer Health System. It's a major announcement by Holzer Health Systems and Holzer Clinic that now makes two major entities one.
It's a day full of anticipation for Holzer Health Systems and Holzer Clinic. Details of the merger all the way down the new logo have been under wrap -- until now.
More than 100 years ago, Holzer started as one entity. But, for the last 60 years, it's operated as two -- the for-profit privately owned physician group and the not-for-profit health systems.
“There are two hospitals -- one in Gallipolis, Ohio, and one in Jackson, a senior facility and then two assisted living,” said Brent Saunders, chairman of the Holzer Health System Board of Directors.
While the very mention of the word "merger" brings up thoughts of job cuts and elimination of services, this new leadership team says this joint venture means quite the opposite.
“It's about putting a system together so we can better serve the community and their health-care needs,” said Dr. T. Wayne Munro, chief executive officer of Holzer Health System.
Munro says patients will notice the change -- in a good way.
“We can have continuity of health care for our patients. We can take care of them from the time they're born until the time they die,” Munro said.
That will mean a stronger, more united front to stand the test of these trying economic times.
The doctors of Holzer Clinic voted by an overwhelming majority to sell their privately owned physician group to make this deal happen.
