Huntington 'Junk' Ordinance Goes into Effect July 1

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Come July 1, typical household items like couches and mattresses that are left on porches or in plain sight on property will be subject to fines.

Huntington City Council passed a so-called "junk" ordinance as a step to improve the quality of life in the city.

Fines can range up to $500. The most serious offenders could face jail time.

Mayor Steve Williams office says there are plans in the works to release information about clean-up dates to help residents get the things off their property.

As soon as the information is released, we will post it here on WSAZ.com.
