FLAT GAP, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Deputies are thanking two children for helping them arrest the two men that broke into kids home.

Johnson County Sheriff Dwayne Price says Christopher Shannon and Nigel Sparks broke into a home in Flat Gap last weekend, and the only two people home at the time were the homeowner's 13-year-old and 8-year-old daughters.

Sheriff Price says the two men walked back and forth from their car to the house several times, and that's when the girls knew something was wrong.

The girls called their dad.

"I got in the vehicle and started that way and I got about halfway home, and they called back and said these guys are trying to get in the house. They're trying to bust the doors down," said Paul Price.

Once the men got inside, the girls hid in a crawl space and watched the men to get a good description for police.

Price said when he returned home he actually met the two men in his driveway leaving his home, but he says the only thing on his mind at that point in time was checking on his daughters.

Deputies recovered most of the stolen items, but Paul Price said it is his daughters' sense of security that will be hard to get back.

"It'll take some time to recuperate from it," he said.

Both men face burglary charges, and are set to be in court Wednesday.
