UPDATE: 50 Jobs Lost at Jackson County, Ohio Mine

Back in November, WSAZ.com reported that WARN notices were sent to 115 employees at Sands Hill Mining concerning potential layoffs at the end of the year. At the time, there was even concern the mine could shut down.
Wednesday, Scott Morris, VP of Investor Relations with Rhino Resource Partners LP, the company that owns Sands Hill Mining, told WSAZ.com that 50 employees lost their job at the end of the year.
Morris says in 2013 the mine will continue production with 65 employees. He says that number could change during 2013 depending on market conditions.
In November, the company cited weak conditions in the coal market, low natural gas prices and increased government regulations, among others for the potential layoffs.

HAMDEN, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A local mine is facing substantial layoffs at the end of the year.
Scott Morris, VP of Investor Relations with Rhino Resource Partners LP, the company that owns Sands Hill Mining in Jackson County, Ohio, says the employees at the mine were given warn notices last week.
Morris tells WSAZ.com that the WARN notices let the employees at the mine know there could be potential layoffs effective December 31.
Morris says they are in the process of getting additional contracts for next year so this does not happen, but they will have to see how the market looks closer to that time.
The company cites weak conditions in the coal market, low natural gas prices and increased government regulations, among others for the potential layoffs.
There are currently 114 workers at the Jackson County mine. Morris tells WSAZ.com there is not a projection at this time as to how many employees could be laid off, or if the mine would have to close down completely. He says he hopes that is not the case.
