Local MTV Reality Show Participants Arrested on Drug Charges

CARTER COUNTY, Ky. – A man from Sandy Hook, Ky., and a woman from Grayson who recently appeared on an episode of an MTV reality series have been arrested on drug charges.

Cortney J. Howard, 26, of Grayson, is charged with possession of controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a minor and theft by unlawful taking.

David R. Nickell, 33, of Sandy Hook, is charged with trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree

Both were arrested by Kentucky State Police on Friday. Nicklell remains in the Carter County Detention Center. Howard posted bond on Saturday.

The episode of the MTV series “True Life” was titled “I’m Addicted to Pills.” Both Howard and Nickell appeared in that episode that aired on December 9.

On Dec. 10, Carter County Attorney Patrick Flannery contacted KSP concerning numerous law violations shown on camera in the Dec. 9 episode.

During that episode, individuals engaged in trafficking and possession of controlled substances, and also placed juveniles in unsafe positions, according to a KSP news release.

Following a joint investigation by KSP and the Carter County Attorneys Office, Howard and Nickell were arrested.
