MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A man was arrested Sunday on many charges after neighbors told authorities he threatened to kill a neighbor with what appeared to be a hatchet, according to a Meigs County Sheriff's Office news release.

Ernest L. Ramsey, 63, of Pomeroy, Ohio, is charged with two counts of felonious assault and one count of resisting arrest.

Neighbors called 911 about 4 p.m. Sunday regarding the incident. About 45 minutes later, Pomeroy Police Chief Mark Proffitt pulled over Ramsey in a traffic stop after he noticed a pickup truck being driven erratically.

Ramsey was carrying what looked like a large machete and started yelling and charging toward Proffitt, according to the release.

Proffit drew his gun and ordered Ramsey to put down the machete. He did so but ran to his pickup truck and attempted to get something from underneath a seat. Proffitt and other officers were able to subdue Ramsey and take him into custody.

It was later determined that the weapon Ramsey had was an axe. He was taken to the Middleport Jail, awaiting a court appearance.
