FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man faces first-degree murder charges after the remains of a woman were found in an outbuilding along Blaketown Road near Oak Hill, according to a West Virginia State Police news release.
William “Fred” Cody, 61, of Fayetteville, W.Va., is charged with first-degree murder. He was arrested Tuesday.
Remains consistent with a description of Santanea Byers, 24, of Scarbro, W.Va., were found in the outbuilding.
Troopers say Cody and Byers were acquaintances.
Byers was reported missing on Monday, and troopers later interviewed Cody.
Byers’ remains were sent to the state medical examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Cody is being held without bond in the Southern Regional Jail.
