UPDATE: Man Chased by Police after Taking Heroin into Cabell County Courthouse

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A man chased by police for several blocks in downtown Huntington, after they say he took heroin into the Cabell County Courthouse, has been charged with drug possession.

Roy Harrington, 41, of Inkster, Michigan was arrested in 700 block of 3 1/2 alley just before noon Monday.

Besides the drug charge, Harrington is charged with misdemeanor fleeing and obstructing.

A courthouse guard told WSAZ.com the incident began when a man emptied his pockets into the tray at the security checkpoint and officers found a suspicious bag in the tray.

When questioned about the bag, officers say the man left the courthouse and took off running.

Security and Huntington Police chased the man into the 3 1/2 alley near 8th Street.

Crews on the scene say the suspect lunged at an officer and the officer had to use a stun gun on him.

According to the criminal complaint, the bag contained just over three grams of heroin. Officers also confiscated $840 in cash.

Harrington is being held in Western Regional Jail.

That man and another man were taken into custody at the scene. No word what the other man's connection to the suspect is.

Huntington Police say the bag contained an undetermined amount of heroin.

No names have been released at this time.
