UPDATE 2/4/13
FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A person of interest in a decade-old missing person’s case has been killed in a single vehicle crash in Floyd County.

Kentucky State Police say Billy Crider, 49, of Prestonsburg, died in the crash on Route 194 near Cow Creek on Sunday.

In October 2002, Crider’s ex-wife, Joyce Crider went missing. She told family members she was on her way to see her now ex-husband, and never arrived.

Investigators interviewed Billy Crider about her disappearance and considered him a person of interest in the case, but they never had enough evidence to charge him or anyone else.

In October 2008, WSAZ.com reported that Lexington Police, FBI agents and the state medical examiner spent the day digging on property is owned by Crider in Floyd County.

They used cadaver dogs, earth moving equipment, shovels and a septic pump to search for clues.

On Sunday, Joyce Crider's mother said she worries where the case will go from here.

“I would like if someone did find her body. It’s been 10 years, no one has found it yet,” said Joan Gains.

Gains say she always suspected that Billy killed her daughter and hid the body.

“I’m a 100% positive he did. They went away for a weekend to see if they could patch their relationship up. But she went to the motel to tell him she wanted nothing to do with him and was never seen again.”

Gains say although she may never know the true story of why her daughter disappeared, she is glad that the Billy Crider chapter of her life has finally come to a close.

“It’s bad enough losing a child. But I don’t even have a grave to visit.”

In June 2010, Billy Crider was arrested and charged drug trafficking and carrying a concealed weapon

The arrest was the result of a raid at the pawn shop in Prestonsburg that Crider managed,

It came days after investigators seized dozens of gun from the store.

During the raid police say they found pills, $17,000 in cash and more guns in the store.

Police say they've had the business under investigation for a year and that undercover officers made several buys of illegal prescription pills at the store.

In April 2011, Crider was indicted on drug trafficking charges.
