ELKVIEW, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A trailer marked by tragedy, and a quiet Elkview neighborhood changed for good. Sheriff's Deputies say a man was murdered inside his own home -- finding signs of a struggle.
"There is what appeared to be blood inside and outside the residence," said Cpl. Brian Humphreys with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies say David Lemons was discovered dead Monday just before 2 p.m. They say a friend dropped by his trailer on Darlington Lane and spotted his body through the window. Investigators say it's not clear yet when Lemons was killed, they're still trying to piece together what led up to the crime.
"We're trying to find out when this person was last contacted, when they last spoke with someone... anybody that may have been in the area and may have seen anything," said Cpl. Humphreys.
Deputies say they didn't find any signs of forced entry, and wouldn't describe the victim's injuries.
WSAZ.com talked with neighbors who say the murder has shaken their peaceful way of life.
"It does make you nervous... you don't always know who's next door," said a neighbor.
That woman didn't want to be identified but says she just moved to the neighborhood with her young daughter... whom she now wants to shield from a frightening reality.
"I may not tell her because she'll be afraid to stay by herself, or after school," said the neighbor.
Hunting for clues and searching for signs... that could lead to a suspect in the shocking crime.
The victim's landlord talked with WSAZ.com off camera. He says lemon had been renting the trailer for about 10 years and was always a good tenant.
Sheriff's deputies say they were called to that same trailer earlier this month for a drug overdose. They say a woman was taken there to recover after she had overdosed on drugs elsewhere.
No charges were filed in that case.
