UPDATE 6/13/13
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Huntington's medical community is in shock after a tragic accident took the life of a retired surgeon.

Dr. Hossein Hadi was run over by a mini-van in his own driveway Thursday afternoon and died.

News of a sudden death in your neighborhood is always a shock. It always makes it worse if you've called that person your friend for years.

"What a fine gentleman and a good doctor and a good colleague. I was just so sad to know that this freak accident happened to him," said Dr. Philip Lepanto.

Dr. Lepanto's friend and neighbor in the Southeast Hills neighborhood of Huntington, Dr. Hossein Hadi, was killed in that accident Thursday afternoon -- in the driveway right outside his own house.

"The victim's own vehicle had pulled into the driveway, and as they got out the vehicle wasn't put into park and rolled down a fairly steep embankment of the driveway leading down to Summit Drive," said Gary Queen with the Huntington Police Department.

Dr. Hadi's wife was not hurt in the accident. Family friends and fellow doctors showed up to try and comfort her.

"We worked together many times. He was a good surgeon. But most of all he was a great human being," said Dr. Subrat Lahary.

"Always a happy person, a very devoted husband and father," said Dr. Ijaz Ahmad.

Police say there was no attempt to rescue. Dr. Hati was already gone by the time they arrived.

Dr. Hadi retired several years ago from St. Mary's Medical Center where he specialized in treating people with cardiovascular disease.
