HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man was sentenced Friday in a deadly shooting that happened in 2012.
Quazaa Farrow was sentenced to eight years in prison for the fatal shooting of Mikeal Branch. Farrow was given credit, though, for the two years he already has served. That makes him eligible for parole in a year.
Farrow apologized Friday for the shooting and said he has used his time behind bars to become a better person.
"I just want to say that I appreciate the mercy you've shown me today," he said. "I'm going to make something out of this opportunity."
Defense attorney Michael Bailey said, "I think the judge showed his wisdom just taking everything into account. Obviously someone did pass away here, and Quazaa understood that, and I don't think we can argue with the sentence that was handed down today."
Originally Farrow faced 15 years in jail. Friday's sentence is just short of half of that.
