MAGOFFIN COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A man died during the weekend in a stabbing in the Falcon area near Salyersville, and his girlfriend was charged with murder, Kentucky State Police say.
Roy Prater, 43, of Floyd County, Ky., suffered a stab wound to the upper leg, which severed an artery, the Magoffin County Coroner said.
Marie Minix, 42, of Falcon, was arrested at the home and charged with murder.
"The information I have is she was residing there, (and) she had been in a relationship with Mr. Prater," KSP Trooper Shaun Little said.
Prater, a father of two, was described as a loving man by his family. They said he was kindhearted, hardworking and loved the outdoors.
"He took me and my brother fishing every summer," his daughter Brooke Bailey said. "He loved fishing, he loved to do carpentry work ... all he has ever done really is mow grass and build houses."
She said her dad had been staying with Minix.
Troopers are working to determine a motive in the incident.
Prater's funeral is set for noon Wednesday at Hall Brothers Funeral Home in Martin, Ky.
