Parents Charged With Choking and Hitting One-Year-Old

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two people have been charged after they allegedly choked and hit their one-year-old son.

David Evans and Angela Vetter are both facing child abuse charges, and Evans is also facing a charge of child neglect resulting in injury.

The baby is the biological child of Evans and Vetter.

According to the criminal complaint, the boy's uncle walked in on Vetter choking the child, Friday.

During an investigation, it was determined that the boy also had a bruised and swollen left eye that appeared to have happened very recently.

Vetter says she saw Evans hit the child in the face with his hand because the boy would not stop crying.

According to Vetter, Evans said the child should not be crying for no reason.

Both Evans and Vetter are being held at South Central Regional Jail on $100,000 cash only bonds.

Evans faces up to eight years behind bars and Vetter faces up to five years behind bars.
