MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Mason County Sheriff's Office stopped a man wanted in a child abduction case from Illinois Tuesday night.
Captain Charlie Stearns tells WSAZ.com they received an amber alert around 10:40 Tuesday evening.
They were told that a man had taken a 9-year-old boy from Illinois and could possibly be heading to Virginia, where he is from.
They received information from a ping on a cell phone that the suspect may be on Route 35 in Gallia County, Ohio.
Within 10 minutes of getting the call, Mason County deputies set up and stopped the vehicle about a mile into the county.
The 9-year-old boy was not injured. He was handed over to Child Protective Services and will be released to his mother.
Captain Stearns tells WSAZ.com that investigators in Illinois plan to take the case to the prosecutor's office Wednesday to file charges.
Since no charges have been filed in Illinois, Stearns tells WSAZ.com, they cannot hold the suspect. They took him into custody for questioning, but had to release him.
